1. Create another stream of income

You can create another blog as an additional stream of income.

Who doesn’t want to make more money?

With another blog, you may increase your monetary potential as it taps into a market that you otherwise couldn’t have with just one blog.

Even if your current blog covers multiple niches, it may still be a good idea to start a blog that focuses on one specific niche to help forge yourself as the authority figure in the niche and thus open more doors for you in terms of making money.

Think about it like this, would you go to a general doctor to treat your hearing loss or go to a doctor who specializes in treating hearing loss?

This is why starting another blog in a specific niche could help.

2. Reduce risks of losing your only source of blogging income

About 5% of bloggers make a full-time income blogging. If you ask me, I think that’s a high number because we don’t know what percentage of bloggers give it their all and work hard to turn their blogs into full-time jobs.

Most bloggers probably don’t put enough time into blogging and only publish 1 article or so per week.

For those who treat blogging like a business, they have a pretty good chance of making a full-time income from their blogs.

If you work hard, you too can be among the top 5% of bloggers who make a full-time income blogging.

If you have more than one blog, you can reduce the risk of losing all your blogging income should something happen.

You’d have another income to support you if your blog gets hacked or the market is no longer there for instance.

It’s always good to diversify your income stream especially if your current blog is doing well already.

3. You can work on another blog when you get bored with one

As a blogger, you’ll inevitably come across a time in which you get bored just like you would with any job.

If you have another blog, you can jump into another blog temporarily when you get bored with one.

I’ve also heard of YouTubers who do the same with multiple channels. When they get bored with one, they focus on another and they’d never run out of passion as they always give each thing enough breaks in between.

Similarly, with a blog, you may realize one day that nothing excites you about the topic and you need something fresh.

Instead of quitting your blog, you can focus on another one first and then get back to it when your passion return.

Sometimes we may see more results with one blog before another due to the niche and let’s face it, we’re more likely to continue blogging if we see some success.

It’s okay to start a second blog to assess whether you’ll see faster result with the second blog.

I have multiple blogs and this is the blog that within the same stretch of time gets me the most views. I’ve seen some success within just the first two months. For my other blogs, I didn’t see the same amount of pageviews two months in. I believe my experience has something to do with it but the niche is also a factor as well.

You may give up too soon if you are stuck to a blog that you don’t see results in soon enough. It’s okay to test the water a bit with another blog but ultimately, you should focus and hone in on one instead of spreading your energy everywhere and getting nothing done.

4. You may be able to blog full-time sooner

It takes time for Google to trust your content and recommend it to others. You should give each article 8 months to rank on Google first before you give up.

And you should also aim to have 500 articles out before you expect a full-time income. Some people get there with fewer articles and some more but I’m giving you a realistic view of what you should expect.

It’s better than finding out that you require fewer articles to quit your job than finishing your 100th and realizing you’re not there yet and someone lied to you about what you could expect.

Since it takes time for each article to rank on Google, having multiple blogs in the meanwhile may speed up the time in which you can make a full-time income blogging.

That is if you’re able to work fast enough.

Say you have 200–500 articles out on one blog most of which haven’t had the chance to wait 8 months yet, it may be worth venturing into another blog and another niche in the meantime while you continue to put out new content for your first blog.

It really depends on how much more content you have to write and how many articles you have out already.

Have you written pretty much everything you think you can cover for one blog already? Have you written at least 200 posts already? Have you given each article 8 months to rank already? If you answered yes to the first two questions and no to the last question, then, it may be time to start another blog.

5. A place for you to explore other passions

Having another blog can create another platform for you to explore your other passions.

You won’t necessarily get the opportunity to talk about what you want to talk about in your blog.

For instance, since this is a personal finance blog, there are things that I wouldn’t cover that I may want to talk about. So starting another blog may be a good idea.

6. Your current blog is doing well already

If your blog is doing well already, it’s time to start another blog.

Starting another blog can help you gain another source of income so you don’t have to rely on just one blogging income.

It should take you less time to figure it out with your second blog since you have already been successful with your first blog.

Tip: Don’t start too many blogs unless you can confidently automize it. If you’re doing all the blogs yourself, keep it below 5 and publish at least once per week.

Reasons why you shouldn’t start another blog

Here are the reasons why you shouldn’t start another blog

1. It’s your first blog

If it’s your first blog, it’s best not to start another blog while you still haven’t figured out the basics of blogging yet.

There are truly a lot of things you need to learn as a blogger. Read this blogging guide for beginners to find out more.

You can also check out the blogging section on HelloMoneyTree.com to learn more. Click here.

Here are just a few things you need to know as a new blogger:

  • Sitemap (how to submit it on Google console)
  • Setting up Adsense
  • Which ad network provider to go with (Adsense vs. Ezoic)
  • How to do keyword research
  • Should you use Semrush, AHrefs, or Google Keyword Planner (click here to learn how to do keyword research with Google Keyword Planner
  • How to write an article
  • How many words to write
  • How often you should publish new articles
  • What mailing service provider to go with
  • How to set up newsletter opt in and freebie opt in
  • What plugins to use
  • What is domain authority and how to increase it
  • How to protect your blog from hackers
  • What is Woocommerce and do you need it for your blog
  • How to set up Woocommerce
  • How to backup your blog

The list goes on.

There are a lot of things you should research as a blogger. And when it’s your first blog, you really don’t want to overcomplicate things with more than one blog.

You’d have to learn how to do things from scratch and do it not once but twice!

Your time is better spent getting the basics for your first blog down before you move on to the next.

2. You may end up not doing well in any blogs

When your time and energy are diversified into many different things you may risk not doing well in any of them.

Many of us have the tendency to overestimate the amount of time we have and underestimate the amount of time it would take to do something.

There’s a reason why a lot of construction work takes longer than expected.

You should prepare time for the unexpected when planning anything.

You will run into obstacles along the way that will divert your attention away from blogging. You may end up with less time than you thought.

If your first blog hasn’t fully taken off the ground yet, it’s worth taking the time to work on it further before you add something else to the plate or you may risk not doing well in either.

3. It may make you feel overwhelmed

One blog is already a lot of work. I mean A LOT.

And if you got 2 blogs? That’s even more work. You can easily feel overwhelmed and burned out with so much stuff to do.

By the way, here are 15 signs that you may be burned out. Check it out!

4. To avoid shiny object syndrome

Shiny object syndrome is the tendency some people have to pursue something before they finish what they’re working on at the moment.

Say you’re working on a blog, something else may caught your eyes and you end up starting yet another project before you’re done with the current one.

You should avoid shiny object syndrome by finishing what you started first.

5. You may not have time to handle multiple blogs

One blog alone will take up a lot of your time. With two blogs, it’s almost guaranteed that you’d be working a lot more hours.

You should realistically assess how much time you actually have before you dive into another blog.

6. Your blog post quality may drop

With your time divided between two blogs and whatever else is going on in your life, your blog post quality may drop.

This is something to be expected especially if you still devote the same amount of time to blogging each week yet are working double the work.

Keep in mind, that you should aim to put out high-quality blog posts because putting out garbage won’t help readers at all.

Final thought

There is truly so much to do with each blog and I know for the most fervent bloggers out there, you may be compelled to start another before your current blog has taken off yet.

This is your choice to make alone. There are clearly both good and bad reasons for starting another blog.

I’m considering starting yet another blog as well. I know!

Good luck with your second blog! Cheers.
